Day 1 Rome - Civitavecchia
At the airport of Rome, meet your tour escort who will stay with you throughout the entire stay in Italy. From the airport, reach Tarquinia first and then Cerveteri: you will visit the necropolis dating back to the Etruscan times. Drive back to Civitavecchia where you will board the ferry leaving at 7pm that will take you during the night to Palermo in Sicily. Night onboard.
Day 2 Segesta - Selinunte - Agrigento
Once in Palermo at 9am, you will travel southwards to visiting the first of the two archaeological parks you will find in Sicily: Segesta. After the visit, you will continue to Selinunte, the second archaelogical park located in the southern part of the Sicily. You will spend the night in Agrigento.
Day 3 Temples’ Valley - Piazza Armerina - Syracuse
In the morning, you will visit the Temples’ Valley (one of the most outstanding examples of Greater Greece art and architecture). After the visit, you will start the transfer to Syracuse stopping in Piazza Armerina where you will visit the Villa Romana del Casale. Excavations have revealed one of the richest, largest, and varied collections of Roman mosaics in the world for which the site has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The villa and its artworks date to the early 4th century AD. You will spend the night in Syracusa.
Day 4 Syracuse - Necropolis of Pantalica - Catania
This morning, you will visit Syracuse, The city is notable for its rich Greek history, culture, amphitheatres, architecture, and as the birthplace of the preeminent mathematician and engineer Archimedes. This 2,700-year-old city played a key role in ancient times, when it was one of the major powers of the Mediterranean world. In the afternoon, you will reach the the Necropolis of Pantalica, a collection of cemeteries with rock-cut chamber tombs dating from the 7th to the 13th centuries BC. Together with the city of Syracuse, Pantalica was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. Continue to Catania and check-in
Day 5 Taormina - Catania
In the morning, you will visit the famous Ancient Greek Theatre of Taormina. In the afternoon, you will return back to Catania for a guided tour of the town and from there you will board the night ferry directed to Salerno. Night onboard
Day 6 Pompeii
Once in Salerno you will reach Pompeii where you will visit the excavations. Check-in in Sorrento where you will spend two nights
Day 7 Herculaneum – Vesuvius
This morning, you will visit Herculaneum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is famous as one of the few ancient cities that can now be seen in much of its original splendour, as well as for having been lost, along with Pompeii, Stabiae, Oplontis and Boscoreale, in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 that buried it. Unlike Pompeii, the deep pyroclastic material which covered it preserved wooden and other organic-based objects such as roofs, beds, doors, food and even some 300 skeletons which were discovered in recent years along the seashore. It had been thought until then that the town had been evacuated by the inhabitants. In the afternoon, accompanied by an alpine guide, you will climb the Mount Vesuvius, the volcano responsible of the destruction of Pompeii and Herculaneum
Day 8 Naples – Rome
Leave Sorrento to reach Naples where you will visit Naples Underground. In the afternoon, after a good slice of pizza, continue to Rome where you will spend 2 nights.
Day 9 Rome
To end this tour dedicated to the antique civilizations, you will visit Rome following the Imperial theme. You will visit also the Colosseum. Afternoon on your own to get ready for the departure
Day 10 Departure
Check-out and transfer to the airport of Rome
